BSO Academy for Amateur Musicians - June 23-30, 2012

Dear Rusty Musicians and Friends,

This is a special invitation to all musicians who have applied to become a BSO Rusty Musician. Many of you have performed in our Rusty Musicians program multiple times, and know the thrill of performing onstage with Music Director Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra! I want to take this opportunity to invite you to apply to our upcoming week long BSO Academy, which will be held June 23-30, 2012 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

BSO Academy website and application >
Be sure to check the Academy page on the BSO website frequently for updates, which will include the daily schedule of events.

I am pleased to announce the repertoire for the upcoming BSO Academy.  The 2012 Academy will have a similar structure as the 2011 Academy, with two separate groups, each of which will perform an entire half of the Final Concert.

Here is the full program:

GROUP 1
Tchaikovsky:  Capriccio Italian
de Falla: Three Cornered Hat, Suite No. 2
Elgar: Selections from Enigma Variations

INTERMISSION

GROUP 2
Berlioz: Roman Carnival Overture
Ravel:  Rhapsodie Espagnole
Prokofiev: Selections from Romeo and Juliet

Music Director Marin Alsop and the BSO Players have chosen music for each Participant group that is equally challenging and rewarding. However, if you have a preference for one group over the other, please let me know via email as soon as possible. This year we will make every effort to accommodate your request; however we cannot guarantee that your request can be honored. Assignments for each group will be made once all applications are received. You will be notified of your assigned group when you receive your acceptance into the 2012 BSO Academy.

If you’ve already applied, thank you! Tell your friends to apply soon; some sections are already almost filled! I will let you know when we get the music posted for download on our website. In the meantime, have fun listening to the great music that will echo throughout the Meyerhoff in June!

Wishing you and yours All the Best in 2012!

Warmest regards,

Sara
